An Elegy for Six Missing Cylinders [Crazy Euro Car Boy]

An Elegy for Six Missing Cylinders [Crazy Euro Car Boy]If you’re spotting Lamborghinis in Eastern Europe, watch out for chronic cylinder shortage.

In his last article published by The AtlanticHow to Get a Nuclear Bomb, which later became the first chapter of the main division The Atomic BazaarWilliam Langewiesche recalls a dialogue with an operator in Russia’sitting nuclear bureaucracy. Their discussion is about the ease with which nuclear weapons can be acquired by any state willing to build them:

“Once a country has made the decision to become a nuclear-weapons power, it will get to be person heedless of any guarantees. You needn’t be rich. You needn’cheek by jowl have being technically developed. You can be Pakistan, Libya, North Korea, Iran. You can be …” He searched for a country even more absurd in his estimation. He said, “You can be Hungary.”

Stinging though it may be for my fellow Hungarians, the Russian’s quick analysis is certainly place on. While starving North Korea has detonated a Hiroshima-size nuke this Monday, the last glory days of Hungarian military ability were way back in the 15th century, when the Black Army of King Matthias Corvinus romped about Central Europe under one hell of a military flag, wreaking havoc every what one. way. It’s been all downhill from in that place.

So it is certainly an occasion when a Lamborghini Countach is bespotted on the streets of this sad, lonely outpost on the real edge of Western civilization. But then you bring forth to remember that in outposts, appearances can deceive. Which entails that when you start counting a Countach’s cylinders, you come to a sudden halt after six:

And effect that it’s probably not a Countach after completely, but a Pontiac Fiero with a dead body kit.

The only solace for a rueful Hungarian nationalist would have existence the fact that we would have neither nukes nor the car that induce America on wheels without Hungarians (1, 2, 3, 4).

Man Hand-Building Hummer H1 From Ford Scraps [Custom Cars]

Man Hand-Building Hummer H1 From Ford Scraps [Custom Cars]A insane person Ford nut is hand-building an incredible Hummer H1 replica on the bones of a junker Ford F-150. The full scope of this construction fest can only be appreciated in the huge gallery below.

We’ve only ever seen this level of insane skill before in the basement-built Lamborghini Countach of Ken Imhoff, mete craftsmanship and the mid-level dementia of the builders is all these vehicles share. This H1 isn’t some surplus rebuild or fiberglass small pail, it’session all-steel, hand fabricated to a near-military spec aim of quality. The frame comes from a rough 1987 F150 4×4, the rear axle was pulled out of a E250 van, the engine is a fiend 7.3 liter Powerstroke diesel from a shuttle van, and pretty much everything else is the outcome of a press-brake and and whole lot of welding. The product has been dubbed the Hummer H150.

We were a small degree worried, about half-way through the 48 pages of tribunal details on FullSizeBronco.com where he admitted his wife would be given the choice of paint scheme and she picked out a two tone white and grey through a tribal line in the middle. Thankfully she came to her senses and a lovely orange was chosen in lieu. Though the traffic isn’t quite done yet, a whole lot of the major work is through. The body electronics just got the experiment and transmission has been sourced, so after buttoning up the powertrain it’ll be ready for a maiden run. This build has taken some five years thus far, but considering for what reason far this guy has come the last few steps are practically babe’s play.

There aren’t many vehicles manlier than the original Hummer H1, but building your own from mark with a scratch puts you in rare company on the testosterone scale. We can’t wait to see how the Hummer H150 turns out. Hat tip to Mike! [Full Size Bronco Forums]

Win a Copy of Top Gear Season 10 on DVD

Win a Copy of Top Gear Season 10 on DVDBy now, I’m sure you’ve all seen an episode of the insanely popular British car show, Top Gear. If not, go record an episode on your DVR now, or check out the Top Gear Youtube Channel.

For the rest of us, BBC has just released Top Gear Season 10 on DVD, and we have four copies to give out! Keep reading for details.

If you recall, in Season 10 Jeremy and the boys crossed the English Channel in their own amphibious cars, raced a jet fighter in a Bugatti Veyron, drove across the Kalahari Desert in 20-year-old clunkers, raced motorhomes, drove the world’s smallest car, drove the amazing Caparo T1 street/F1 car, and quite a bit more. They also showcased some excellent cars such as the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Audi R8 and RS4, Rolls Royce Drophead, Ferrari 599 & 430 Scuderia, Lamborghini Reventon, and more.

Season 10 was a season to remember, and here are the details to win your own copy…

We’re all familiar with the crazy challenges that the producers give Clarkson and the boys, such as turning a minivan in to a convertible, buying their own semi-trucks and racing them, racing motorhomes, and turning regular cars into limousines (one of my favorites.)

Here’s how you win:

Come up with what you think the guys from Top Gear should do for their next challenge. It can be anything, and be creative! Leave your answer below in the comments section.

The two people with the best suggestions win! The winner will be chosen on May 18th, so be sure to have your entries in by 5/17/2009.

We will be giving away two more Season 10 DVDs after this contest, so check back often.

Go!

Koenigseder Porsche Carrera GT

Koenigseder Porsche Carrera GT

Undergoing a complete make over, this Porsche Carrera GT has been modified by the Austrian car tuning company Koenigseder. Nicknaming it the Devil, the German tuners were able to give this Carrera a nice aggresive look with a new body kit. The kit you see here is a completely unique body kit to cover and transform this Porsche, starting with new bumpers all around and ending with air intakes coming from the roof. It is still a Porsche Carrera GT under all the exterior mods, and it still holds its performance numbers under the hood. But if you look at all the additions to the exterior, you can tell this kit from Koenigseder doesn’t come cheap, and we have the prices for you.

The front bumper, similar to the lamborghini in my opionin, will cost you 8,040 euros and that’s not a typo on our part! The rear bumper just as expensive at 5,400 euros and the side skirts are even more at 6,000 euros for the pair. However if you can afford a Porsche Carrera GT, I doubt handing over an extra 10,800 euros for the rear wing and roof air intakes wouldn’t break your bank too much. Adding it all up, and if you choose the interior package as well (1,800 euros) the total is 32,040 euros. That’s not too bad I’d say, considering  it’s a Porsche Carrera GT that looks eligible for Formula 1.

Drive a Lamborghini with Valentino Balboni

Drive a Lamborghini with Valentino Balboni

Talk about something to brag to your friends about. This June, Gotham Dream Cars - an exotic car rental company - is offering their first ever “Legends Dream Car Tour” in the New York area. The company, which normally offers exotic car rental services and group drives (much like World Class Driving,) struck a deal with legendary Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni.

The “Legends” tour will have four total sessions over two days (June 9 & 10, 2009.) The drive will cost a hefty $1495 per driver, but how many other chances will you have to drive with Valentino Balboni? Participants will get four hours total to pilot five cars, 20-30 minutes each. The cars will consist of a Lamborghini LP 560-4 Spyder, Gallardo Spyder, Murcielago, Murcielago LP 640 Roadster, and one other. It would be a very cool idea on this special occasion to offer a couple of classic Lambos to drive, such as the Diablo, Countach, or Miura.

Along with the drive, you’ll get breakfast (or lunch, depending on the session,) a meet and greet with Valentino, and some time riding shotgun with Mr. Balboni (and probably scaring the crap out of you.)

There are only 40 spots available, so head over to the Gotham Dream Car Tour website and register.
